About Us

Our Mission is to compel the federal government to cancel plans for an airport in North  Pickering; to stop further evictions and demolitions of homes, farms and businesses; and to establish long-term green alternatives by creating a permanent Land Trust to protect these 18,600 acres of Class A farmland, forests and waterways.

Land Over Landings represents not only the tenants of Transport Canada who live on properties expropriated in 1972 for a planned airport, but also concerned residents of adjacent communities (Toronto, Markham, Ajax, South Pickering, Stouffville, Uxbridge, Whitevale, Claremont etc.) who will suffer if we don't act to prevent abusive uses of this precious asset.

Land Over Landings proposes a new paradigm for developing and implementing  sustainable, green technologies for use on the land while maintaining heritage and the pioneer virtues of strong community, stewardship of the land, courage and innovation in the face of challenge. We intend to meet our goals of regenerating communities and protecting the fields, farms and forests within a Land Trust by means of education and communication, as well as being a watchdog of politicians, government agencies and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority

We believe we have a golden opportunity for this and future generations: fresh air to breathe, pure water to drink, locally grown nourishing food to eat and the opportunity to mingle with other forms of life in their natural habitat. We invite you to join us in celebrating and working to save the landa work in progress.

"We have to move beyond just talking about being against an airport in North Pickering - that argument has been effectively made - and start pursuing the idea of a Land Trust to permanently protect
this oasis and create a green infrastructure for future generations."
